The Department of Emergency Medicine plays a pivotal role at Srikamatchi Medical Center, a 300 bedded Multi Super Specialty Hospital at Thanjavur. The ED is a state-of-the-art clinical department with 12 beds, run by experienced emergency physicians round the clock rendering a gamut of integrated and specialized care for patients coming with medical and surgical emergencies.
In any emergency, Time is the crucial factor. So care providers should be well experienced to take quick and right decision without time delay. In view of this TIME FACTOR, The ED provides easy access to patients along with timely interventions bases on recent evidence based guidelines and protocols.

TRIAGE:

Patients are triaged as per Australasian Triage scale (ATS) on arrival in ED. Rapid assessment and resuscitation is carried out without time delay. The multifaceted approach invites consultation from other specialties concerned immediately.
Emergency medicine department is also fully equipped along with a working plan to handle any sort of mass causalities and Disaster Management.

OUR ED IS FULLY EQUIPPED WITH CONTEMPORARY EQUIPMENTS LIKE:

Mechanical ventilators and Transport Ventilators.
Bedside ECG, ECHO, ULTRASOUND AND DOPPLER.
Multipara monitors, Syringe/Infusion pumps.
Defibrillators.
Percutaneous pacing.
Arterial blood gas analyzers/ Point of care machines.
Splinting, casting and POP Application equipment.
Fully Equipped EMERGENCY OT.
Specialized Toxicology Bay for Poisoning, Snake bites and other Envenomation management.
24*7 ambulance services equipped with ventilators and defibrillators.
Dedicated and trained team of Emergency Physicians, Staffs and Technicians who are AHA certified and trained in BLS, ACLS are available round the clock.
Specialized and Dedicated Toxicology team, Trauma team, Stroke Team, Cardiac Intervention Team are available round the clock to serve the patients within The Golden Hour period with strict adherence to Door to Needle time.
The ED is also backed by 24*7 services like Critical care services, Cathlab, OT, Dialysis, Pharmacy and Laboratory services.

Cardiac emergencies including MI (Heart Attack), Acute Heart Failure, cardiac Arrhythmias, Acute Pulmonary Edema.
Neurological emergencies including acute stroke, CVT, ICH.
Respiratory emergencies including Acute exacerbation of COPD, Asthma, Pulmonary embolism, Tension Pneumothorax, Acute Respiratory failure.
Infectious emergencies including Fever with complications, Sepsis/ Septic Shock.
Hematological emergencies including bleeding diathesis, and blast crisis.
Acute anaphylaxis and Anaphylactic Shock.
