Job Summary:

The CTOT Scrub Nurse is responsible for providing skilled perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing cardiothoracic and transplant surgeries. The nurse assists the surgical team by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and ensuring adherence to infection control standards throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain the operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are available and functioning.
• Assist surgeons during cardiothoracic and transplant operations by anticipating instrument and material needs.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and sterile field at all times.
• Handle surgical specimens appropriately and label them as per protocol.
• Count sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after surgery in coordination with the circulating nurse.
• Support anesthesia and perfusion teams in preparation for cardiac surgeries.
• Ensure proper documentation of surgical procedures, implants, and consumables.
• Monitor the patient’s condition throughout the procedure and communicate any changes promptly.
• Participate in pre-operative and post-operative patient care activities as needed.
• Maintain surgical instruments and ensure timely sterilization and restocking.
• Adhere to hospital policies, infection control guidelines, and safety procedures.
• Participate in continuing education programs and support junior staff training.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures.
• Proficiency in handling surgical instruments and maintaining sterile techniques.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure environments.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
• Sound understanding of infection prevention and control practices.

Qualification & Experience:

Education: B.Sc / GNM in Nursing from a recognized institution.

Experience: Minimum 4–10 years of experience as a Scrub Nurse in a CTOT / Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit.

Registration: Valid Nursing Council Registration.

Certifications (Preferred): BLS / ACLS / OT Technique Training.

Salary: As per industry standards / Negotiable based on experience
